Cool & Dre

How did you two meet?

Cool: We were in our high school chorus together. My girlfriend at the time made me join. So me and Dre got close through that, and we joined up with a few of our other friends to start an R&B group in Miami at the time. We wanted to be the new Jodeci, the new Boys II Men. We ended up getting a manager and moving to Atlanta to work with Rico Wade. We were up in Atlanta starving. We had nothing except the studio.

Dre: We didn't have any money for beats or anything that time, so we figured we'd get some equipment as cheap as possible and start producing for ourselves.

Cool: One night, we were sitting in the parking lot of Taco Bell, and Dre was like, "Maybe it isn't god's plan for this group. Maybe the plan is for me and you to do this." From that point on, we took the production seriously. We ended up moving back to Miami and diving into the production. It was 3 and 4 beats at a time, $200 here, $300 there, working with local artists in Miami and making a name for ourselves.

Did You Know? Cool and & Dre won a Grammy for producing this song:

Flo Rida

Tramar Dillard (who we know as Flo Rida) wars born in Carol City, Florida. It turns out music runs in the family, he has seven sisters and some of them used to sing in a gospel choir. When he was in high school Tramar joined a rap group with some friends called GroundHoggz because they all loved music so much. He was discovered by the three other members when Tramar, who lived in the same building, spit some verses for them. The guys in the group were bowled over and instantly wanted him in the group.

In School and In Studio

Despite working with Fresh Kid Ice from 2 Live Crew and a member of Jodeci, Flo Rida was initially turned down by major labels, so after graduating high school he enrolled in an international business management program at the University of Nevada for two years all while continuing to pursue his music dream.

After receiving a call from Poe Boy Entertainment Flo Rida returned to Florida and signed with them and began to work with rap industry heavy weights like Rick Ross, Trina, T-Pain and DJ Khaled. His major breakthrough came when he released the song "Low" featuring T-Pain off his debut album Mail on Sunday. It reached number 1 on the Billboard Charts and stayed there for 10 weeks!

Uncle Al

Even nine years after his horrific murder, DJ Uncle Al's name still rings heavy in the streets of Liberty City. In what was said to be a case of mistaken identity, Al's death on September 10, 2001 was overshadowed by the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Four years after the fact, a suspect was charged with the murder, but then those charges were dropped in 2007.

Ahead of his time in more ways than one, Uncle Al's albums elevated his career and made him an underground celebrity. He served as DJ on a short-lived, but popular radio show with Luke and Freaky Red on 99 Jamz. And his ultimate goal of Peace in the Hood still runs vibrant today.
